What gives with the rest of my document window?

Postby StevenD » Wed Aug 05, 2009 12:03 pm

I finally (FINALLY) downloaded and installed Inkscape on my Ubuntu laptop. Some of it is absolutely unusable. Here is what happens.

I open a new document. The doesn't stretch the full width of the screen. That is okay. At least I can see everything from side to side. But the bottom of the document window runs off the bottom of the screen so I can't see the items at the bottom and some of the colors are not showing. I have tried to re size the window so I can see everything but I'm just not seeing how to do that. If I click on the Maximize button in the top right corner of the screen the document window fills the screen but the bottom stuff still runs off the screen. When I click anywhere in the screen the document window jumps up to reveal the bottom and the top menus are now hidden. When I click again the window jumps down to reveal the top menus again. When I try and select a tool or menu item the window jump up or down and the wrong tool is selected. For example with the document window maximized I tried to select the Text tool on the left tool bar and kept getting either the tool above or below and could not grab that tool. How strange is that.

Has anyone else experienced this. By the way this is the latest stable version.

This is frustrating and well... just not nice at all. :?

I think this has been fixed in the dev version. I'm not sure if there's an autopackage of the 0.47pre1, I think not.

There are instructions on how to compile dev versions on ubuntu somewhere on this forum. You enter a few commands into terminal and then wait for an hour for it to compile. Then you have development version installed alongside the official one. Wanna try?

Sure I'm willing to give it a try. I did on my Vista machine but I'm game to give the 0.47pre1 version a try on this Ubuntu machine. I went to the autopackage page yesterday and was looking for an autopackage of the 0.47pre1 but didn't see anything earlier than stuff from 2008. None of that stuff seemed worth trying to figure out what to get.

So how do a I get this dev version to try out. I'm still kind of new to this Ubuntu thing.
