Not getting Inkscape to work on Mac

I use MAC OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and can't get Inkscape to work. The icons show up and the file in Applications is there. Installing it is no problems. The Apple X11 is installed. Why doesn't Inkscape work?

Please check the FAQ topic, as well as search the forum. There are MULTIPLE topics about this issue. If you work your way through them all, and still can't solve the problem, please feel free to reply. If you do need to reply, please provide details about what you've tried and what happened when you did.

As a first step, you might make sure you downloaded and installed the proper version for Mac. I'm not sure, but there might even be special instructions for installing on Mac.
