inkscape 0.47 tablet devices, SOLVED + grafics

Postby epictreeclimber » Wed Jun 23, 2010 11:38 am

The answer to my question is given below ;)

heya guys,

First of all i really love this awesome software. A million thanks for the creators.
I only have little problem, maybe someone knows the answer to.
To make more curvy twirly lines i am using a simple tablet (Trust tb-2100 wireless) because with my mouse its a bit to edgy.
Anyways, the tablet is working with Gimp and it feels when i am adding pressure but with inkscape 0.47, it only seems to be able to press buttons, without being able to draw. So I search in the menu a bit and i found "input devices" when i pressed on it i saw quite some chinese symbols, but nothing i could do.

Does anyone maybe know how to make this work? I would be extremly pleased to be hearing from you. I added a link to the tablet. (http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=12052)
Kind regards and tumbs up for the developers!!

Johny

The input device may be disabled, even though it doesn't look like it.

I'm glad it worked for you. And I agree that some screenshots are probably required since the solution is quite illogical.

i have the same problem with .48, but the above steps do not solve it, seems to be common.

OKAY! So... I think I have a lead.
If you monitor the activity of the axis. They are only ever active when you have both eraser and pressure stylus enabled. You need to expand the the box below the test area (in hardware tab) to see the levels of activity of the axis. But when they are both enabled it doesn't work at all. When only one of either is enabled, you can draw, but with no pressure.
One thing I'm curious about though.. Is the "link" option, because there seems to be an important connection to the functioning of the pressure and having one or both of the features turned on.
The problem I've noticed is that you can "link" them together, whatever that does. Under the "hardware" tab, but it never saves this linked setting. Seeing as you need to restart the program for the other settings to come into effect, I'm assuming the same goes for the "link" setting, but the link setting cannot be saved.
Perhaps the two parts of the pen need to be linked to work, but cannot be linked?
Also, I have also noticed that when I cannot draw, the x and y coordinates go to extremely high values, although they seem to be normal values while I am moving the pen. This can be demonstrated by drawing a 3D box, moving the mouse about one can see that the box has normal dimentions, but while the mouse is still, the box stretches to an extreme size in some dimensions. So it appears that when the pen is idle the x and y readings go crazy.
But I first advise investigation into the "link" settings. Thank you.
Best of luck. Looking forward to a solution.

agreed that the settings for getting a tablet working in inkscape are rather confusing. reminiscent of early linux setup programs that had to work in terminal (without X)...like the mouse setup program. mind you all other graphics and desktop publishing programs by now on my mac and windows just pick it up from the OS preferences. i don't want to be too picky as inkscape is a great free program, which helped keep me going in svg whilst the standard took soooo long to get noticed. but if there was an area that lags a bit behind, this setup area for devices could certainly do with a lift.
