I don't use my windows laptop very often but decided to download inkscape..well not a few minutes later I get a browser hijack getting me to answer their survey. then I go online to view shops and shows pop-up on recommended products. and then finally I am getting a trovia search engine. Has this happened to anyone trying to download this software. im really annoyed.

where did you download it from ?

Should probably only download from Sourceforge. Safe links are always available on the website: https://inkscape.org/en/download/. I've never heard of any Sourceforge download being compromised.
