How to change fill pattern color?

Postby A.H.Vincent » Mon Jan 21, 2013 7:11 pm

I can fill a rectangle with a pattern, checkered , but it's only in black and white.

How can I change it to red and any color I want?

In photoshop I used hue and saturation for this.

Thanks

There might be a way to change the color using the XML Editor, but I don't really know for sure. You could use the Paint Bucket tool, to....more or less cover up the b/w. Or my usual approach is to create a new custom pattern. Just draw a single unit of the pattern (4 squares) with the colors you want. Then select, and Object menu > Pattern > Objects to Pattern. Then when you open Fill and Stroke > Fill tab > Pattern, you'll see the new pattern identified as "pattern XXXX" (where the x's are a randomly assigned number). (potentially could have 4 or 5 digits)

Thanks Brynn,

But I hope there is an easier way?...something missing as simple as this is just about enough to go back to Adobe! ;(

I don't think that works on the pre-made patterns....does it?

Oh, well look at that....nice! Image

(I wonder why it doesn't work on markers' color?)

I couldn't get replace color to work. Not sure what I did wrong, the box only allows for 6 colors, and there's 8 listed (on the wheel), but, I tried changing color FFFFFF (black) with another color and it didn't change anything. Is there a trick to this?
Never even knew we had that option to replace color, guess I haven't needed it. I recently did a checkerboard pattern (for an oval rug), used a mask, and it caused so many issues that I never got a chance to change it's colors, lol. I ended up deleting the mask, only to still have issues, maybe once I resolve that I can easily change it's colors now. so glad I checked this thread, as I learn something new every day. This time thanks to Pilosopong!
