Just updated to Mac OS X Mountain Lion

Postby a_dejesus » Mon Aug 06, 2012 1:31 pm

I got InkScape up and running using XQuartz since ML dropped X11. When I close out of InkScape or Gimp I get a black screen it seems like it takes a long time for XQuartz to quit I have been opening up another app to make this screen go away. Has anyone else had this problem and/or know a fix for it?

Hi, I know next to nothing about OS X, but are you running a ready-to-use Inkscape (installed from some repository, software center of website) or did you compile it yourself?

There seems to be some discussion regarding Inkscape in combination with XQuartz on Launchpad, but since I'm not familiar with the OS I don't know the relevance of those topics.

Finally, some other users here use the same OS and version as you do, see for instance this topic on the forums.

Oh by the way, did you check this part on the wki? Not sure if relevant or not.

Thanks Ailurus I racked my brain all day at work about this problem. When I got home I looked around the preferences of XQuartz and unchecked full screen mode and problem was solved! Thanks again for you input.

I also just updated to Mountain Lion and installed the latest version of XQuartz (ver. 2.7.2). I also downloaded Inkscape and installed but it fails to run. The program starts up, the icon briefly appears on the dock and then disappears. I checked the Console Log for the Mac and I see only a message that says:

Code: Select all

8/8/12 10:34:53.522 AM Inkscape[30373]: Initializer-based scripting additions are no longer supported. "/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax" not loaded.

So, can anyone give me hints about how to resolve these problems. I am not sure if the above error indicates the fatal crash of Inkspace or if it is just a info style message.

Thanks,
phil

Inkscape does not install anything into '/Library' nor explicitly load anything Adobe-specific from there (likely this is informative message about you having outdated stuff from Adobe installed). It does not give any information why Inkscape did not launch.

WRT Inkscape not launching - did you log out and log back in after installing XQuartz (or reboot)? And did you take care of the GateKeeper restrictions (Inkscape 0.48.2 for Mac OS X is quite old and not a signed app)?

I did restart the computer but that had no affect. So, I decided to reload everything after downloading XQuartz and Inkscape again. This time, no problem but I think it had to do with the fact that Inkscape starts the XQuartz server and if it seems that if XQuartz is running already then that is why I was having problems. I am not 100 percent sure but my reload of everything did duplicate my previous efforts. Maybe cosmic rays.

I am having the SAME issue. Running updated OS mac system. Downloaded/installed xQuartz. Logged out/in & rebooted. Reset the gateway, adjusted the x11 settings per the download instructions. Put Inkscape into Applications folder. When I try to launch the window comes up with the Application folder and the Inkscape logo . . . . and that's it. Nothing happens!!!!!!! I would appreciate any help anyone can give. TIA (I did click the Inkscape logo)
