Help with coloring objects .

Postby 2Worlds » Wed Feb 17, 2010 1:54 am

I had classes before on Ai so I'm trying to get familiar with inkscape, so I'm sorry if this question was discussed earlier.

In Ai we have a color picker to apply the same color in a object that we already have in a object. my question is how can we use the same exact color in inkscape in multiple objects?
And second there any article telling the tools between inkscape and Ai that are similar so we can identify them quicker like this one?
Thanks

Hi 2Worlds,

Like Illustrator, Inkscape has a colour picker :tool_dropper:. Its use:
  • select the object that you want to colour
  • select the colour picker
  • move to the object that has the colour that you want to re-use
  • left click with the mouse sets the fill colour
  • hold down the shift-key and then left click with the mouse sets the stroke colour

An comparison between Inkscape and Illustrator tools and terms is available here:
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Inkscape_for_Adobe_Illustrator_users

And a tool map is available here:
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/AdobeToolMap

Also know that you can set up your keyboard to match Illustrator shortcuts, if you find that more convenient. More info here:

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Syllie

Another quick tip is you can paste an objects style to another object... Edit->Copy (ctrl-C) then Edit->Paste Style (crtl-shift-V)
