PvP web comic looking for a vector program to ink in

Postby PvPfan » Tue Jan 22, 2008 1:59 am

Scott Kurtz over at the web comic PvP wants to start inking his strips in vector format. He posted a video detailing his current work process and how Adobe Illustrator and Flash don't work for him. I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to Inkscape, so I can't say for sure if it'll work for him. Any gurus think Inkscape will fit his needs? It would be quite the boon to have a major web comic inked in an open source program like Inkscape.

HI,

certainly. Inkscape can be used for such things. I am not sure how to use the Tablet with it (as I dont have one ;) but I guess some other users can report (and it is certainly there).

Some intermittent way to get the work into vector is to trace the bitmap from Photoshop. I can say it gives perfect results and if he uses just B/W work to trace and color it in Inkscape after that, it can be even what he needs.
WinXP and mostly latest Inkscape (unless stated otherwise)

I don't think this will work for him as I'm looking for the same thing....and I could not seem to find a pure eraser tool in this program. It does have some great features, but without an EASY way to erase a portion of a line,...it won't serve my needs...

Thinning in Tweak tool :tool_tweak: gets very close to Eraser, try the options from the other thread ;)

Currently the easiest way to erase is to draw over what you want to erase, select to two object and perform a 'difference' on them.

I've been meaning to suggest to the developers that this be automated by including a toggle for the calligraphy tool - Illustrator CS3 does this.

I also think Scott Kurtz could work without an eraser function. His inks are simple enough that he could delete a line and redraw it as quickly as erasing something in a raster program.
