Hi to all
Need some help here
I'm trying to save a PDF file from Inkscape but the output is missing some characters (Using V 0.47)
can anyone help?
Thanks
Missing characters in PDF output
Re: Missing characters in PDF output
Hmmm... had that happen to a friend recently...
In the Save As Portable Document Format options window, have you tried checking the box on "Convert texts to paths" and see what happens?
Can't say I'm too savvy in this area... for my comic, I usually just export everything into PNG and then convert them into a PDF using another program (such as gscan2pdf).

The other option is to print to PDF rather than save as PDF. This will ensure that the document is exactly preserved as you created it. If you're using Linux it's pretty easy to print to PS or PDF. With windows you can download a free PDF printer driver.
Converting to PNG and then to PDF might result in rasterization problems... PDF isn't particularly good for rendering raster graphics - even at high DPI.

Re: Missing characters in PDF output
Well I guess that's qualitatively true.
But I've gotten much better size and performance creating a PDF from raster images than those generated fresh out of Inkscape. Certainly much greater consistency, since still images are immutable and will always look the same regardless of where they're being viewed. -v-
For mass distribution purposes where I expose my comic to people with slow internet connections, slow/old computers and different OSes+viewers, the raster approach is the most universal. ^^b

Though I should add I also play around with PDF compression settings first. The defaults, at least in Adobe Acrobat and Gscan2pdf, aren't necessarily ideal. ^^'
Re: Missing characters in PDF output
After a few testings I found the problem, it was the "text box".
When I broke the text to separated text lines, the export to PDF worked just fine & all the text turned up with no problem.
