Hello,
I added a png image to my website, but when the website opens the image doesn't just "pop" up, it kind of... unfurls downward, then it appears whole and fine. It is just the way it first appears that I want to change. All the other images on the site are jpeg, and they work fine. Is there any tip someone can give for me to fix this?

Is it a large file by any chance? Sounds like it's just loading in slowly.

Jude,
Thanks for your reply. No, the file isn't large, it's only 264 KB. Could it perhaps be a problem with the browser, I used firefox, maybe IE might not have this problem? Or do png images have to be imbedded into websites in a different manner than jpeg images?

Re: image doesn't load properly when webpage opens
It's just the filesize that's a problem, as far as I can see. 264 KB is large, and your website appears to be somewhat slow - I could only download it at 89 KB/s, which means it took about 3 seconds. I suggest converting it to JPEG, which is a better format for an image like that on a website - with the right settings, you should be able to get a much smaller file without significant loss of quality. (By the way, if you care about the quality you should make sure the width and height in the HTML code correct - currently they don't quite match the image.)
Re: image doesn't load properly when webpage opens
Yes that image has a lot of small detail (pavement sand) so jpg is a mucj better format for it. Maybe rendering of high detailed pngs is always slow. Now you see why it can be important to choose the right format.
Try with this http://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jiame7.jpg
Anyway no matter the overall connection speed to your server, it does load slower than other images
nevermind lol i found it on the website

Re: image doesn't load properly when webpage opens
Ye, PNG is pretty inappropriate for web usage when it comes to photos, photo-based textures, or photo-realistic textures/images and the like. Use (progressive) JPGs instead.
Re: image doesn't load properly when webpage opens
PNG doesn't have a progressive option does it?

It has an interlacing option, which is the same sort of thing (except that it usually increases the filesize, whereas progressive JPEGs are often smaller than ordinary JPEGs).

Hello,
Thanks everyone for the good advice! I really like working with vector images and inkscape so I I am glad you'll suggested a work-around for putting the images online. I will convert it to a jpeg image.
Cheers,
Jaime
