Imported Object Can't be Dragged

Postby The_0bserver » Tue Feb 24, 2015 3:36 am

I've imported a bitmap of a logo from one inkscape (svg) file to another. I'm working on incorporating this logo into a business card. I imported the whole logo but, only needing part of it, I cropped the other part out. So I have the part I want to use, only now I can't seem to click and drag the object anymore in order to move it. It's difficult to even click on it too - I have to drag an area around the object in order to select it. What happened?

There is no "crop" tool- with that name - in inkscape.
I bet that you are cliped your bitmap. Clip it's not the same than croping your image.

Please be aware that inkscape is a vector drawing program... For bitmap work it's better to use raster image programs like GIMp, or Photoshop.

There are more posibilities to provide a workaround, if you provide your drawing or a sample drawing... However if you read carefully the links provided, I think you can solve your problem by yourself easily

If you have problems:

FWIW, there is a new bitmap crop extension.

http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... s/0.91#New

I haven't used it yet.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Hi.

Off topic?

My understanding of how this extension is supposed to work: if you have one horizontal and one vertical guide on your page the extension will export four png bitmaps
of your page.

I tried to get this to work on a small page but killed Inkscape after a while as it never seemed to finish.
The extension started other instances of Inkscape from the command line as expected but they never finished.
I am using 0.91 on Win8.1.

Any chances the bitmap is transparent where you want to select it?

Try duplicating the clipping object first, add a white fill to it, move to the bottom,
group it with the raster image, and clip the group.
Assuming you work with the default white/transparent background, it should work.
