Firefox 3.6 can have wallpaper header & footer

Postby turquoise » Mon Feb 08, 2010 12:35 am

hi,
In Firefox 3.6 you can have customized header and footer background images. Firefox calls these "Personas." Take a look at the gallery http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/gallery or Getting Started http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/getting_started Uploading them to the public gallery is optional. The images must be png or jpeg but they can be created in Inkscape. For creation rules see: http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/demo_create I found that to have the file size within the 300K requirements the image had to be shrunk by using the lossy jpeg. For mine I supported Inkscape by adding in "Draw Freely http://www.inkscape.org" into the header image. Image Download the persona from here: http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/persona/88588

Since the header and footers are used by Firefox to display and get data from the user the image design must take into account the readability of text. Also there are many sizes of monitors so the whole image will often not be seen. If you submit your persona for the gallery it takes about a week before a volunteer reviewer approves it and puts it into the gallery. Have fun. Give a free advertising plug for Inkscape.
