X11 sound alerts in OS X

Postby Jmx » Wed Aug 12, 2009 10:46 pm

Hi,

Since a few versions back X11 keeps beeping each time you change a value or type in a value when using Inkscape.
It is getting quite annoying when you use Inkscape for a while, the only option i find in X11 preference is to change it to use the system warning sound.
It's the same if i use Inkscape 0.46 or the latest build from 1 Jul '09.
I have the latest X11 v 2.3.3.2

Anyone knows why this has starting happening and/or what can be done to stop it?
People around you think you are doing something very wrong when your computer are beeping all the time
Since i listen to music on the computer i can't just turn off the sound.

Thanks in advance

It is a bug in the clipboard proxying of XQuartz. To turn off that beep:
  1. open 'X11 Preferences > Pasteboard' and
  2. disable 'Update Pasteboard immediately when new text is selected.'
see also this posting on the X11-user mailing list (in June 2009).
