Real cut in Inkscape ?

Postby panga » Fri Nov 27, 2009 5:33 pm

Hi all,

I regularly use the cut function in Inkscape by making a mask before and applying it for cuting an object, or a group of objects. But It appears that this function no really cuts the objects, It just hide the part outside the mask.

Boolean operations work well with simple object but with groups it is impossible. In my work I'm making plans and maps with inkscape, and sometimes i need to cut a part of thoses vectorial maps, and it could be cool to extract thoses parts just by cuting them with a rectangle.

Any suggestions ?

Make a bitmap copy:

  1. Create your masked image as usual
  2. Select it
  3. ALT+B or Menu: Edit > Make a Bitmap Copy

edit: Sorry, brain low on coffee today. I read that you wanted an image for some reason..
I'm not sure if it's possible to cut through a full group. I think it should be, just like it's possible to clip through a full group..

I'm not sure if I understand your question about cutting through a group. But I'm wondering if one of the boolean Path Operations might be your answer. I know that Difference only works on 2 objects at a time (the one being cut and the one doing the cutting). But Intersection might be your answer. If not, I wonder if Cut Path could help in your case?
