Good evening to all... Novice Inkscape user.
I am using Inkscape 0.91 64Bit on Windows 8.1 and when saving an svg file as "pdf", strange characters are being exported; when saving as "eps" all contents are displayed correctly.
Can anyone provide any assistance please..
Thank you kindly.

Many thanks tylerdurden for your interest and quick response...
Attached an example: the svg file (the original), apparently the forum does not allow .eps to be attached, so I am only sending the original saved-as-PDF.
In the pdf file, notice that the text in the left hand side label is where the problem is, while the right hand side label clearly shows all the text.
Again, I really appreciate your support and interest.
Kind regards, dmurray3

Re: Strange Characters Export Inkscape 0.91 to PDF
It seems to work ok on my setup, so I would search around for 64bit issues, if I were intent on keeping the text as "text".
Inkscape's save pdf settings include converting texts to paths; that is often better (depending on your file destination).
Also note that your text has varying strokes, I would eliminate all strokes on text and then size accordingly.

Thank you tylerdurden for your support and interest.
I did away with the strokes on the text -as you suggested- and it worked.
As you may have noticed, the images I was working are a clothing label which is to be "stamped"; I was told to apply a stroke to my texts to ensure clarity of characters, during the stamping / printing process.
In any event, once we get our negatives, prepare clichés, start to stamp / print, I will find out if removing the stroke does not affect the quality and legibility of the final label.
Just for record, I was using Inkscape 0.48 32 bit and was always applying stroke to my text and exporting -with no problems- to pdf; only last week did I decide to upgrade to 0.91 on 64 bit and that's when my "save-as-pdf" problems start o appear.
Again, many thanks for your recommendations.
Kind regards

Re: Strange Characters Export Inkscape 0.91 to PDF
Glad to hear it's working out.
Adding strokes is common to ensure type lines are heavy enough for relief printing. It is the line-weight that is central, not that the figures actually have strokes or outlines.
And to re-iterate, sending PDFs with text changed to paths is the best way to ensure the artwork will not be altered by a different font being substituted by the printer's computer.

Re: Strange Characters Export Inkscape 0.91 to PDF
Thanks again... I was generating my PDFs with text changed to paths...
However, as you mentioned, the line-weight is the problem/bug, which was not ocurring in version 0.48 W32 Bit.
In your experiencie, what line-weight would be advisable for relief printing?
Kind regards.

It just depends... media, ink, plate material... all are variable... best is to try and see if the details are acceptable.
Have a nice day.
