I have been trying to make a label on a bottle or cylinder shape items but the text does not look natural.
Details: I made a bottle then I make a rectangle and typed the text(this rectangle is a bottle label). The text on the label is straight, however, I want it to be little bit cylinder shape or stretched. I am sorry can not explain in words.
We can easily adjust shapes using nodes but what about Text? can anyone give me guidance please?
Thank you
How to make text look natural on Labels?
Re: How to make text look natural on Labels?
Hi,
Inkscape has a really cool feature called Envelope Deformation LPE (Live Path Effect). First, select the text and do Path menu > Object to Path. Then Ungroup, then Path menu > Combine. You could try to adjust the nodes, but I've found that to be really tricky. Instead, I would select the new text path and go to Path menu > Path Effects Editor. Choose Envelope Deformation from the dropdown menu, then click Add.
That will cause a new section to appear in the dialog. Depending on how the text is oriented to the bottle, you'll need to adjust either the top and bottom bend paths or left and right. Select the text path (if not already) then click
button beside whichever side you need to bend. So for example, click that button for the top bend path. You'll see a green colored path along the top of the text. It won't show in the finished image; you just use it to do the bending. So grab the middle of that path and drag downward slightly. Do the same for the bottom bend path. If the text on the label goes the other way, like writing on a test tube label, you would use the left and right bend paths.
Here's the manual info: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... ation.html And here's a great tutorial. It's for cans, but the label would be made the same way: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12768

Re: How to make text look natural on Labels?
Was it for this topic? I guess they could have deleted it. Maybe whoever posted it later realized it wasn't the right thing to use....or something like that. Because do you need animation for this? Or if it contained spam, another moderator might have deleted it. Or could it be a reply in a different topic?
Oh wait -- ok. I looked in the forum logs, and I see that the person who posted it (and who deleted it) was the person who made the tutorial that I gave you a link to. Probably after he posted the message, he realized that I had already given you the link to it. So he deleted the message. (The bit about animation is because the tutorial is an animaged GIF.)
So no worries
