GhostScriptInstallationWin7(64bit)

Postby Jason Nail » Sat Apr 02, 2011 2:53 am

OK.

I am extremely new to installing programs on IBM clones. I downloaded the latest GhostScript app (gs901w64.exe) for my new Toshiba laptop (Win7 64bit). I opened the file and it went through the set up process. Then, I opened Scribus (1.3.3.14) and it stated GhostScript was missing. Is Scribus looking outside of C:\Program Files\gs?

Thank you very much! Jaso

And just to prove how little I know, after GhostScript is installed, I open the Ghostscript 9.01 shortcut, and I get a window with a blinking cursor next to GS>. I don't think I am even supposed to open GhostScript because when I installed it on my Macmini, Scribus found it. (and I didn't have to open GhostScript independently, it was just there) Do I need to enter a command in this window to make Scribus see GhostScript?

Thank you very much! Jaso

http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Installa ... hostscript

From the above link Jason:

If it doesn't, go to File > Preferences > External Tools to browse for your Ghostscript (gs) executable. Remember to choose the gswin32c.exe or gswin64c.exe executable depending on your processor's version of Windows.

Yes!

Thank you very much! The 64 version is up and running! I seen it before and thought that it was at default as being the latest version supported. I uninstalled and reinstalled gswin64, then gsview, and finally Scribus, corrected to gswin64c, and bam!

Speaking of GSView, I came across an EPS file online that neither opens in InkScape nor Scribus (nor the GIMP), but opens in GSView. It will save as EPS and PDF. But, only opens in InkScape (as PDF). Then, when saving as EPS from InkScape, it stil won't import to Scribus. Let me see if I can go get this elusive EPS file and see if anyone wants to see if they can open it...OOps EPS not allowed. OK. I will work on it and keep you posted. Jaso
