Alas, Yorick
Alas, Yorick
I was inspired by this picture[link] and tried to make something similar with a quote from Shakespeare's Hamlet, Act V Scene 1, when Prince Hamlet finds the skull of his former clown.
I got all the fonts from myfonts.com, took screenshots, saved them as jpg and finally traced them in Inkscape.
I am not done with it and I would appreciate suggestions how to improve the impact of the words.
Edit:
Exchanged some Fonts and removed the shade at the bottom. I thinks that helps to emphasize the quote, as it was only distracting

Re: Alas, Yorick
Wow, very nice!
I think the impact of the words would be hard to improve upon. If anything, I think I might try pushing back the black...not sure if it's a gradient or blur at the bottom, so that it's similar to the effect at the top. I'm assuming (and we all know where that can take us ) that the black gradient or blur is meant to simulate age? And I would think aging to affect the...sheet of paper (?) roughly the same at bottom as at top. ...Unless this black stuff is meant to imply the effect of a lens of some kind? It might not do anything to improve the effect of the words, I'm not sure, but just a thought.
The other thing I wanted to suggest is giving it a yellowed look, which better than black, might simulate the appearance of age. That is IF this image is supposed to appear as if a sheet of paper or card stock.
I really like this -- good work!

Re: Alas, Yorick
Ah yes, I think removing the darker shading at bottom did help quite a bit! But think I may have preferred one or 2 or 3 of the original fonts.
Just a tip -- Instead of replacing the original image via Edit, you might want to just add a new reply to your topic. That way people who didn't happen to see the original can compare and perhaps comment on the changes. And for me, I can't quite remember certain details about the font, so I can't tell you which ones I liked better. Something about the 2nd to last line doesn't seem to work for me, but can't remember the original, so I can't choose a favorite.
Overall, still like it very much
