Certain SVG-files are not imported correctly

Postby MrHelfer » Thu Oct 13, 2016 12:01 am

I've been using some SVG-files from game-icons.net, and most of them are working fine. However, I wanted to use some dice icons, and I could not get Inkscape to import them correctly. Only the die and a fraction of one pip is included. I've tested the files in both a browser and in GIMP, and the file is fine. What might cause this, and is there something I can do? I've included one of the files and a screenshot of a couple of the files.

Here's a link to where I got one of the files:

Some odd data in the svg that bothers inkscape....

I'd open in LibreOffice and export as svg, then you can open in Inkscape and extract the paths after some ungrouping and un-clipping.

Not the best solution, but works... ish.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Thanks for your help, though I'm... not exactly sure how to do this.

Now, I don't have LibraOffice, but I could install it. However, I thought it was a word processor?

Also, how do you mean, unclipping?

LibreOffice (LO) is the open-source alternative to products like Microsoft Office, it does have a word processing module, as well as spreadsheet, presentation, and draw modules.

So, when you open the svg file in LO, it can then be exported as a another svg file, but with modified information and formatting. Some of the LO processing includes adding "clip" paths to objects in the image... those clips may need to be removed to get to the basic path you want. Check the status bar at the bottom of the Inkscape window to get hints on what stage you are working on. Eventually, you will have selected a "path with x number of nodes" that you can manipulate.
Have a nice day.
