Any new solutions for the problem ? alt + arrow key´s only work on PC. It doesn´t work on OSX.
I had a look in the X11 pref. if it is maybe the same problem like copy and past on the mac but i dind´t find something usefull.
Would be nice to habe a solution for the kerning / tracking problem on osx.
Thanks a lot.

For OS X take a look at this FAQ:

BTW - the current stable version Inkscape 0.48 has GUI controls on the text tool controls bar for line spacing, character and word spacing, shifting and rotating of characters - you can do it even if you don't get the 'Alt' key to work properly on OS X (though it is possible and works as described in the FAQ - I use the same Xmodmap settings on OS X 10.5.8)
