Hello

It gets my attention that you have modified the size of your canvas. I recall to have had a similar problem, and it was because I changed the size of my canvas. But I don't remember how I solved. I guess I erased some transformation attributes in the XML editor. How can I explain it? :|

-Because you want the rectangles around the black circle, isn't it?

-Post your sample file here in the forum
-Make again all the proccess in the default canvas you get when Inkscape starts
-Consult in the Inkscape Guide, when He talks about tiled clones. Maybe We are forgetting a step. It also has happened to me.

Greetings

From the manual:
To put a tile along an arc use the P1 symmetry with one row of tiles. Check the Exclude tile box.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Hello
I modified your file.
- When you change the size of the canvas, and there is a layer, in order to keep the position of the objects that are in the layer, Inkscape applies a transformation attribute to the layer. The way I know to erase that attribute is using the XML editor (Shift + Ctrl + X), find the layer/ group, find its transform attribute and erase it.
- Then you have to move the objects by hand.
- Then you can apply the tiled clones feature

Check the attached file, locate the original (Shift + D), and open the tiled clones dialog. The configuration I used for the tiling should have been saved. It seems you can use the "exclude option" or use a "-100%" column shift, but not both.

Greetings

The configuration I used for the tiling should have been saved.

@hulf: yes, it is saved. But not on a per-document basis, only in your own personal preferences file ;)

The easiest workaround for this known issue (will be fixed for tiled clones in the next release), is to
  1. add a new layer after having changed the document page size
  2. draw the original tile and the tiled clones on that new layer

[ The new layer won't have any preserved 'translate()' transformations which are known to trigger displaced clones in current available Inkscape versions. ]

Wow... never saw that issue before.

Thanks for the workaround. Seems that cut/paste-in-place into the new layer works fine.

Making a new layer is the same thing as erasing the attribute.

Note that parts of that bug are already fixed in the dev version, as far as I understand.

Where is a "rule of thumb" that says which configuration is saved with the file, and what with Inkscape ?

...
But You are right: Thanks for the correction Moini, thanks for the workaround Suv

@hulf2012:
Tool settings and extension settings are saved in your Inkscape prefs.
Everything you need to open a document and have it look just as last time you have opened it, is saved in the document itself (document settings + view when last saved).
