Ok, another question... In my quest to digitize this sewing pattern, I thought I was done but then when I tried printing it out, it was a different scale! Ack! The original pattern is 8.5" wide, and the printed one is 9.5" wide. I tried manually scaling it, but it's still a bit off and I'm going to waste a lot of paper trying to do it that way.
I have 3 more of these to do (different sizes), so I'm not completely opposed to rescanning the one I've already done. So what do I need to do, either at the scanning process or the Inkscape process, to get the printed version to be the same size as the original paper that I scanned? I will eventually be breaking this into multiple pieces to place in a PDF file that people would print out (it doesn't fit on one page). I've placed markers in there to line the pieces up. I just need the pattern to be the appropriate scale now.
Thanks!
[solved] Keeping appropriate print size
Re: Keeping appropriate print size
Replying to my own post to add more info... It appears that I scanned it in at 99dpi, but Inkscape is using 90dpi. So can I change the Inkscape document to be 99dpi? I've adjusted the export dpi setting, but that didn't do anything for the new document being created.
Re: Keeping appropriate print size
I beleive Inkscape is hardcoded to use 90dpi and the DPI of imported bitmaps are ignored. It's a major shortcoming and something that should be fixed if Inkscape is to be used a print tool. The easiest fix would be to scan the images at 90dpi. Alternatively, check physical size of the image and manually resize it to match in Inkscape. I don't believe there are any other ways around this.
Re: Keeping appropriate print size
Ok, I'll just scan at 90dpi. Thanks!
