Using PostScript fonts with Inkscape - fixed?

Postby pkl321 » Fri Mar 21, 2008 4:32 am

I installed some Open Type Postscript fonts on my computer, and noticed that they did not show up in the Inkscape font options.

I then realized that there is a bug (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Inkscape_does_not_see_some_of_the_fonts_.28Windows.29) that prevents Inkscape from using PostScript fonts:

OpenType fonts (green/black 'O' icon) come in two subtypes: TrueType outlines and PostScript outlines. To tell the difference, double click the font file from Control Panel, Fonts and read the second line of text. Inkscape supports TrueType outlines but not PostScript outlines.

I then discovered this comment (https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/167337/comments/20) which seems to indicate that the problem was recently solved. Apparently, by installing updated versions of pango and glib, it will be fixed.

I downloaded them, but couldn't figure out how to install them. (No .exe as far as I could tell, and I don't know how to do it otherwise.)

Does anyone here know how to install those two? :?: If so, could you describe it in language that non-experts can understand? ;)

Any suggestions appreciated.

OK, I figured it out, and it works! :D

So, if you want to use Open Type PostScript fonts with Inkscape, and don't want to wait for the next official release...
