Hello,
I have been working with inkscape and loving it so far.
Right now I have a logo ona website I put together and that logo was made with that other software.
Here is that logo
I don't use that software so I tried to replicate that feel with inkscape and here is the closest I got to a metalized look
it looks ok, but some details bother me, I cant get a nice bevel on it with a clean edge, it's more liquid then brushed, looks cool, but my goal is to match the original.
In the meantime I went back to my graphic designer and he made a new one with that software again, because we lost the original logo vector :/.....
this one has nice clean edges, sharp bevel and feel, however it is less organic looking then the original. I like it but would like to correct some details
I am looking for tips if anyone is willing to help with getting something that looks like the original logo in inkscape.
Thanks

Re: Looking for tips and advice with brushed metal look
Could you show us a smaller example of what you did with Inkscape. It's hard to compare when it's so HUGE !
Also, did you use a filter? If not, you might want to explore using a filter.

Re: Looking for tips and advice with brushed metal look
Sorry about the large files
I have linked the smaller sizes,
I did use filters, I didn't write down witch one.
It seems like I have the hardest time to get a nice bevel on the logo, sort of getting a hang of the gradient, but I still need to make it look better.
Are there any filters online that have some preloaded gradients? or can I even save gradients?

Thanks for the smaller file -- much better
Gradients can't be saved in Inkscape, which I think should change. A couple of years ago I was told that the Gradient Editor, and gradients in general were due to be overhauled. But that seems to have fallen off the priority list for some reason. I'm not very familiar with how Inkscape is developed, but I do know that public needs or requests do not steer the train, as they say. It's more done by developer interests.
Anyway, I know that "ivan louette" has quite a number of filters available at Open Clipart Library http://www.openclipart.org/ Don't know if it includes one that will help you or not. And I think there may be other filters here and there around the internet, but again, don't know for sure.
ivan visits here from time to time, so he may well post a reply for you, with more helpful info.

Re: Looking for tips and advice with brushed metal look
Thanks you for the help!
After playing around with gradients and filters I think I figured out a nice way to mimic the real metal logo, but still nothing beats the real deal.
I wish I had a good camera and I could just take a picture of it.
this one is 2 layers, 4 objects total
I used the gradients and then blurred, smudged and smoothed it out with filters, separated it in to a layer with a multiply blend and this is a pretty good metalized look
bottom layer had a gradient on the stroke, and a gradient from black to white in the fill to give it more depth

Re: Looking for tips and advice with brushed metal look
This one doesn't have as much depth as the original, I notice. It really only comes down to your preference, and if you like this, is all that matters. But I thought I'd just mention it.
