I am using version 0.48 Inkscape on the Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit OS. I tried to draw some objects using the snapping feature of the guide lines. I wanted my objects to snap to the guide lines to have a precise position on the canvas. However, the guide lines would snap to each other if they were put close to each other.

I knew that I could adjust the "snap distance" on Document Properties dialog or I could turn off the "Snap to guides" feature. Both options did not work for me. The problem was that I would like my objects to snap to guide lines at a specified "snap distance", but I did not want my guide lines to snap each other at the same "snap distance". Is it intended that guide lines snap to themselves when the "Snap to guides" feature is turned on? I did not really see a reason why a user want guide lines snap to each other.

I can think of a couple of ways to handle this.

1 - Disengage snapping using the Snap toolbar, while dragging guides into position.
or
2 - Place cursor over guide to highlight it, double-click. There you can set the precise position that you want for the guide.

Is it intended that guide lines snap to themselves when the "Snap to guides" feature is turned on? I did not really see a reason why a user want guide lines snap to each other.

I'm not sure. Maybe it is unintended. But I'm sure dvlierop will be along to explain
