Object not centering

Object not centering

Hello,
I added a text object and centered relative to the last selected object, however the text object doesn't move?
I can drag the text object with the mouse though, but it's not as exact as it can be.

Have you selected both objects? Inkscape usually tells you what's wrong in the status line. What does it say?
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!
