I bought the hard copy inkscape manual. I am now using insckape 0.48 under Fedora 14 on a new machine. I find it has changed from the version which the manual describes.

It would be nice if I could download the new manual for free. Expecting us to purchase a new manual with each release is a bit much.

But, assuming the developer doesn't allow that, is there some way to just download the new features?

It doesn't seem reasonable to me either, that one should have to buy a new book for each new release of Inkscape. So I looked at the book's and pdf's websites: http://www.informit.com/store/product.a ... 1735&rll=1 and http://www.informit.com/store/product.a ... 134X&rll=1, respectively. I see a link that says "Register your product to gain access to bonus material or receive a coupon." Perhaps the coupon is for updates??

I suppose you've already looked in the book itself, for info on updates? It seems to me there should be something like free updates or revisions, or something. Also I'm sure you know that you can refer to the online manual for free http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.php

It turns out I had bought both the book and the pdf version, which are registered. However, they are just the Third Edition, which is what the online help version is.
Your other links give a link to a draft of the fourth edition, but I don't see any way to download it.

Yes, I saw your question in the other topic you posted. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer. But I'm sure others will.....~suv always shows links to info on new features. I will try to find it too, and then I'll reply in the other topic.
