Importing eps files into Inkscape

Postby StevenD » Thu Mar 06, 2008 5:59 am

What do I need to do to import an eps file into Inkscape? I have a bunch of FreeHand 8 files that I could convert to eps at work and I would like to be able to use them.

I think you can only import EPS on Linux systems if you install specific software - http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... mport.html

But if you have to save as a type, save as PDF and install a development version of Inkscape 0.46 to open it with. Keep in mind that Inkscape is not a PDF editor. Once you import a PDF, save it as SVG and always work with the SVG file.

Also, if you can get your hands on it, Illustrator will be the best application to convert a Freehand file directly to SVG.

Thats a drag man. Thanks for the info. What about if I open them up in Illustrator and save them as an older ai file? I have access to Illustrator at work but don't work with it very much. I seems like I can import those kinds of files if I read it right.

Why would you save them as AI when you are going to be using them in Inkscape?
