When using Inscape om my PCLinuxOS KDE 64bit computer and setting the default windows geometry via Edit > Preferences > Interface > Windows
and then checking “Remember last used windows's geometry”, the next time I startup Inscape it still uses my whole monitor area for display.
Is there something I forgot to do? I am using version 0.91 r13725.
Thanks.

When you say
it sounds like you want to use a non-maximized window.
I notice on that Preferences page, at the top, there's an option for "Default window size". I would guess you'd want to set that to Small. Although I can't seem to make that work. No matter whether I have it set for Small, Large or Maximized, I always get a maximized new blank document. Hhmm....or maybe you need to have "Remember and use last window's geometry (which I did not have set before). Hhmm, still no.
I'll search for bugs and report back....

Re: It refuses to remember last used window's geometry
Btw, do you use more than 1 monitor? I guess not, if 64 bit means laptop, in this case.
I found this. Looks like a long standing bug, although rated only low (but at least rated) https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/195683
I'm not sure what "window position" being negative or zero means. I suppose maximized would be zero. But where does one find such measurements? If I wanted to set my window position to 5, how is that done?
Since that "Default Window Size" option is new with 0.91 (as far as I remember) I would expect it should be working. So maybe I will report that as a new bug.... It has become quite frustrating reporting new bugs, because the Launchpage search is so aweful. Most of the time my new bug reports turn out to be duplicates, despite my thorough searching
Well anyway, does that seem to be the same issue you are having? I guess, if you know how, you could try placing the window at something > 0, although I couldn't tell you how.
Beyond that (and possibly reporting the other similar issue) the best thing we could do is add a new comment to the report (if we have any new info to contribute, which I don't); and/or clicking the "This bug affects 6 people. Does this bug affect you?" link. I guess I'll add my support that way, whether I make the new report or not.
(It's possible the "Default Window Size" option is not what I think it is. Please don't hesitate to correct me, if I have the wrong idea
)
Hhmm....well, I found that bug report before I actually tested the problem you describe. Now that I tested myself, it does seem to work for me (Windows 7, sp1, 64-bit, 0.91, 32-bit). I would think maybe it's a Linux issue, except that the last comment in that report is on Win7, 64-bit. Oh, but that's reported on 64-bit Inkscape. Let be grab my 64-bit version of Inkscape and test. Maybe I will have new info to report after all?

Re: It refuses to remember last used window's geometry
Well no, I'm seeing correct behavior in 64-bit as well.
However, that last comment may be referring to a different bug. It mentions the window opening at the top left corner of the screen always. And when I was searching, I also found this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1402604
So maybe this problem (the problem reported in this message) is only in Linux?
Edit
A final thought. The option just below the one we're discussing, saves the window geometry per document. Could that be overriding this one? When you're opening Inkscape, and expecting the same window geometry, are you opening a new blank doc, or a specific file?

Re: It refuses to remember last used window's geometry
Many thanks brynn for trying to help me. This problem does not occur on my computer where PCLinuxOS 64bit "Full Monty" is installed.
So I found it strange that the PCLinuxOS "KDE" 64bit version installed on my other computer shows this annoying behaviour.
But after a close comparison between the preferences of inkscape on both computers, I discovered that the suggestion you gave on your first reply: setting
the "Default window size" was different. If I set this from "Maximized" to "Large" , the problem no longer occurs.
I completely overlooked this setting
!
So it seems not a bug at all and I hope you will excuse me for my stupid behaviour letting spending you much of your time
trying to help me out.
Again thank you very much.

Oh, well no worries about that. I'm just glad you fixed it, and it's not a bug!
But that setting still does not work for me, the window size one. Who knows? Maybe I have something wrong with my settings?

Sorry brynn for responding so late. There is something wrong with the alerts when someone responds on this thread.
I am receiving no mails. Just have to look on this site to see if one did respond...

Your replies don't seem to late to me. But to subscribe to a topic, click "Subscribe Topic" in the light blue bar at bottom of page. I think it fools people sometimes, because it has a checkmark icon, which leads people to think maybe they already subscribed. Or I think you can manage subscriptions from your profile.

Thanks brynn, I indeed overlooked the "options" bar at the bottom and now have checked "Notify me when a reply is posted"
