0.47pre1 is out

Postby prokoudine » Fri Jul 10, 2009 2:12 am

We are working to gain 500 points for closing bugs and we had only 304 points yesterday. Anyway, pre1 is out to test:

Please test and report whatever issues you run into (but as little duplicated reports as possible please :))

Loving it. Shift to change from thickening to thinning calligraphic lines (err.. paths) very cool. Sliders in tool control bar, not so much.

The difference between thicknesses 1 and 2 is pretty drastic. The difference between thicknesses 99 and 100, pretty meaningless. Yet both take up the same distance on the sliders. It is difficult to choose a proper value at the low end, which is where most use occurs. And this is true on multiplle tools control bars. If you can't change the scale to logarithmic (even a bad approximation, I don't have calibrated eye balls) you should put back the key entry method.

Also the tweak tool preference panel needs a "use absolute units" item like the calligraphy tool does. The settings with tiny amounts of power and effect size when zoomed in, become insane when zoomed out and turn tiny lines into giant blobs of ink instantly. Bad. At least for me. This has become worse since setting the power and effect size with the sliders has gotten more difficult.

Lastly, confirmation code graphics like the one above this text box, should never contain the characters, I 1 l, 5 s S, 0 O o, x X, w W, 9 q. Well you get the idea. Unless you accept look a likes. At least your's uses only one type face.

The CAPTCHA is not case sensitive, all letters are uppercase, and it explicitly states there are no zeros, which reduces your list to just I 1 and 5 S. If you can't identify the difference between a 5 and S I would suggest your a computer program and the CAPTCHA has done its job well. And I whilst I acknowledge that the font is not a good choice for seeing the difference between l and 1 (and J is difficult aslo), I'm prepared to make things a little more difficult for unregistered users for the sake of reducing spam--you'll only need to complete that CAPTCHA once if you register.

Where is inkscape 0.47 Tiger PPC support? The pre files include Leopard universal but only tiger intel files! Will there be any tiger PPC inkscape or is support being dropped?

I built 0.47pre1 on Debian Lenny, and my rotate/flip icons are coming out as arrows instead of the little triangle symbols. I still see the usual triangle symbols in icons.svg, and I don't see these arrow icons anywhere in there, so I don't know where they're coming from.

These icons changed identifiers in the new build, so I thought maybe it was picking up the wrong icons.svg file and not finding them, but I'm seeing other new icons in the program that are in the new icons.svg but not in the old one.

Is there something going wrong with my build, or is anybody else seeing these odd rotate/flip icons?

Does this wiki page shed some light on the icon issue? AFAIU the newer versions of Inkscape honor (parts of) the GTK icon theme settings (same icons for commands like open, close, copy, paste, forward, back in all GTK applications) - this mechanism was needed with the new 'Tango' icon set (Themable Application-specific Icons) and stayed in the src, while the Tango icon set has been removed from trunk for 0.47.

So far no one with a PPC Mac / Tiger has offered to contribute current prerelease builds.

Yes, it does. Any idea how the end-user makes it quit doing that? I much prefer the Inkscape icons for rotate/flip over my default theme's icons. (I did some reading, but didn't find a clear clue toward how to change that behavior.)

Thanks.

From what I found on the devel-inkscape mailing list, I don't think there's currently a way to change that behavior.

Yes, the order does need a bit of tuning. If you look to some of the
XDG discussions you'll see that it was something I was asking for
assistance with…

Just to let you know... don't blame Inkscape for that one; blame your
distro. :-)

Seriously, those are taken from your current GTK+ theme which is
either a custom one you explicitly set things to, or is the default
that your distro has set up.

If the system has a stock icon for something, that takes precedence.

In 'Preferences > Misc > System Info' you can see the search path for icon themes.
I have no clue if it is possible to change the fallback order or prevent the override of icons.svg without 'fixing' the source code and recompiling.
Nor do I know the specifics of GTK+ or Gnome preferences on Linux - on OS X I had to figure out how to use the GTK (icon) themes at all - without having Gnome or other GTK+ apps installed ('~/.gtkrc-2.0' with XDG paths for icons and themes plus adding the missing index.theme for hicolor icons).

I'm not really sure. If we have someone with a Tiger PPC system, then there will be a build.
