Let me preface by saying I'm an idiot when it comes to computers.

I'm trying to install Inkscape on my MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.6.8

I downloaded the Inkscape software from the web site:

Mac OS X

* OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard – Universal .dmg (requires Apple's X11/Xquartz 2.3.4 or higher)

And when I opened the package, I moved the icon into my applications folder like it said. I then clicked on the icon, and the message saying that it may take several minutes...Inkscape....font caches... blah blah blah and X11 (XQuartz 2.3.6 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple56) opens up. I click OK in the Inkscape box and it and the icon close/disappear.

I tried then following what one forum topic says to do and type "/Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/MacOS/Inkscape" and it doesn't work.

What can I do to resolve this? I'd really like to use this program to create some things for work! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you've already searched the forum? I can't really help with this, but wanted to refer you to this http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... fic_issues. I don't know if it contains the info you need, but at least it will make you aware of the biggest issues with Macs and Inkscape.

I guess I could suggest getting the download from Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscap ... pe/0.48.2/. But other than that, I'm clueless

I've perused the forum a bit, but probably need to look more.

The original file I downloaded was Inkscape-0.48.2-1-SNOWLEOPARD.dmg. Do I need more than this?
