[solved] multiple equally spaced lines

Postby Bennnn » Sat Jun 07, 2008 6:27 am

Hi

I am trying to put ruler markings on the side of a figure so I need 174 equally spaced lines that add up to the same length as an object in my figure. It is very important that they are all identically spaced. I am hoping that there is a way of doing this by specifying the distance between lines instead of trying to draw 174 equally space lines. Please help.

I tried looking on the web and in the manual but the closest I got was "tile clones" which is not what I want.

Thanks

Ben

Actually Tiled clones are exactly what you need to draw the lines you need. I presume the lines are horizontal and stacked vertically. Set 174 rows and 1 column, and in shift tab set vertical shift for rows to 100%.

If the scale of the spacing isn't right you can use Align and Distribute dialog to distribute the lines with a different amount of space between them. Once you have your lines (most likely in a group) position them near your object and align the group to the top of your object. Now enter the group and select only the bottom line, and position it at the bottom level of your object. Now select all the lines and in the Align and Distribute dialog choose Make vertical gaps between objects equal.

Thanks very much. That solved my problem. I misunderstood what tiled clones was about.
