gradient mesh issues

Postby Lazur » Tue Dec 20, 2016 9:46 am

Collecting here some of my recent bug reports for future reference and to not go offtopic on other threads.
-All tested on win 10 64bit Inkscape 0.92pre3 15195.-
Future releases will be improved.

(1) gradient mesh copy-paste adds unwanted transformation Edit

Gradient mesh is added to a rectangle,
then the rectangle is scaled by bounding box handles.

Object is copy/pasted, resulting the gradient mesh is in wrong scale on the pasted object.

Same thing with regular paths. Pasted object's mesh is smaller and translated.

(2) gradient mesh cloning and editing parent results in instant crash

When cloning an object with a gradient mesh,
editing the parent's mesh results in instant crashing.

(3) gradient bending

Bend lpe doesn't bend gradient mesh.

Inspired by this topic.
By second thought, if a mesh shaped path is bent nodes added here and there messing up the net topology so it seems it's beyond the capabilities of any mesh tool for a long time. If all other options were working fine...

(4) gradient mesh, adding new nodes doesn't work

Adding new nodes/loop sometimes refuses to work.

Hovering the cursor over the mesh segment the cursor changes to have a + sign, double clicking.
Itt adds nodes a few times but then refuses to add new nodes by double clicking, although the + sign still appear.

Found when you first select two of the segment's nodes you can double click and add nodes again but that wasn't necessary the first time.

(5) gradient mesh deselects after new node added

Once you double click and finally add new nodes, the whole mesh gets deselected by a sudden while the mesh tool is still active.

Even worse when you can't add new nodes by double clicking it still deselects the mesh.

To top that, sometimes when you double click on the object once it has a mesh already, it replaces it with a completely new one.

(6) gradient mesh straight segment to curved doesn't work

Mesh segments can be set to be straight from the default curved one any time, even after new nodes are added but selecting two neighboring nodes and clicking the make curved segment icon doesn't do anything.

On a side note the node tool can edit the mesh nodes and handles but its make segments linear/curved option doesn't work either.

(7) gradient mesh moving and crashing on fill and stroke tab icon click

When a mesh node is selected and slightly moved, and after you click the mesh tab on the fill and stroke panel right after, strange things can happen.

Sometimes it modifies slightly the current mesh, sometimes it results in immediate crashing.

(8) gradient mesh issue, immediate crashing upon dropdown menu select

Steps to reproduce:
add a mesh to an object, edit the mesh nodes
select another object, and in the mesh tab of the fill and stroke panel choose the existing mesh from the dropdown list -instant crash.

(9) gradient mesh instant crash and not consistent behave with 3D boxes

Draw a 3D box, add a gradient mesh fill to it.
Nothing is rendered from the mesh.
Change one mesh node to another colour -still no action.

Let's move one mesh node -instant crash.

-To be fair it happened once but worked the other.

(10) mesh gradient issue with dropper tool

When multiple mesh nodes are selected, the dropper tool only changes the first selected one's colour.

(11) gradient mesh shortkey doesn't work

Shift+C doesn't work when object is selected with the node tool.

Huge roadblock to add new mesh nodes as you need to go from node editing to object select before you can access the mesh tool.

There has been alot improvements in the background, can't wait to check these in a compiled pre4 win build.

I also didn't test yet, only saw Tav's commit messages. I think it's still a WIP, but I hope the crashes can be fixed before the release...

Turns out these are mostly fixed already in pre4 so the next win build will hopefully work much better.
