Where is the light source?

Postby Denis Bitouzé » Fri Apr 03, 2009 5:40 am

Hello everybody,

I try to (re)use, by copying it on an image of mine, the following image:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Glasbutton_rot.svg

where, in fact, I suppress the inkscape logo, sorry ;).

The trouble is that the nice transparency and light effect depends on the place where is located the button on the page. More precisely, at the place where I want to put it on my image, this button is completely dark! So, I guess that I should either create another light source or, at least, move the image's one. But I have no idea how to do that.

Thanks in advance for any hint :)

Regards,

You might look through the various tutorials available, for creating this kind of image. They should provide instructions for adding highlights, etc. Try the Tricks and Tutorials forum, pinned/sticky messages, for some good tuts.

Well, I tried some tutorials I found on the net but, maybe because I'm completely new in inkscape, they were not very clear for me. But I will give a try to tutos you pointed me out.

Anyway, isn't it possible to reuse the GlasButton image?

Thanks!

From what you describe, it looks like to me that the gradient fill that is used in that object is not moving along with the object.

Before placing and moving the object, first set Inkscape to move gradients along with the objects.

How?

First click the selection icon :tool_selector: at the left hand side of the screen.
Then, in the toolbar above the drawing area, at the right hand side, you'll see 4 little icons.
Hover your mouse over each of them, to view the hint that's given for these buttons and then click the one for moving gradients (second from the right).

Many, many thanks for the hint, that was exactly what I was looking for! :D
