draw one side of the arc. duplicate. horizontal flip. snap the endpoints together with snap nodes (document properties). select both arc segments and convert stroke to path. select both arc segments, effects, generate from path, interpolate. :D

waw .. that's cool ...
I was tried with interpolate but it doesnt work ... now I know that I must convert the stroke into path first (I thought a stroke is path ... )

Thank you !

Ok when i draw the arc then duplicate, then horizontal flip. then snap the endpoints together this does not happen even though in document properties I have snap nodes to objects and snap to object nodes enabled the endpoints do not snap together. What are possible causes of this.

How are you getting it to blend from one color to the next?

I think you need to check "Interpolate style".

there is an official tutorial on interpolation that has just been written. (it is not inculded in inkscape yet, but should be in version 0.46)

That's a great tutorial. It explained a number things I didn't know, such as the significance of the first node.

How would you explain that some paths interpolate as the upper, and some as the bottom one?

I haven't looked into the issue, but was the only difference between those the shapes the shape or was there a different number of nodes as well? What happens if you start with the original shape that works ok, then reshape it to the latter? Does it interpolate ok then or do you get the same result?

you need to reverse the second path (path> reverse)

@Simarilius: Thanks that works, and now both looks OK. I thought it was a malfunction ;) , but it is just the other way.

1 -Select the elements that will be used to make blend;

2 - Go to Extensions -> Generate from Path -> Interpolate

3 - Adjust the blend values, as Illustrator. :)
