Transparency Issue with Logo

Postby Utv1 » Wed Sep 16, 2015 3:10 am

Hello wonderful Inkscape users.
This forum is awesome. Before I begin, I am aware that the question I am going to ask has been asked a gazzillion times, however none of the information provided has helped me with my issue and it is truly frustrating me. I am trying to get my logo to save png with a transparent background so that I can super impose it on my videos. When I export I follow all of the directions, from making sure the background Alpha is at 0, to exporting image and not saving image. When I have my saved file (which I have like 3 million now) it still has the huge white background for no reason at all! (that I know of)

Please help. My updated videos are very time sensitive and I have been dealing with this transparency thing for a good two days now.

As a quick fix, you could try importing your PNG into something like Irfanview or Gimp and saving from there with a transparent background.

Is your logo originally a vector image? Or did you open or import a raster version of it?

If it started out as a raster image, you won't be able to make a transparent background with Inkscape. That's because Inkscape is a vector graphics editor. Instead, you should use a raster graphics editor, such as GIMP. (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... phics.html)

If it's a vector drawing, you need to use File menu > Export PNG Image. (The canvas background must be transparent, which it is, by default....unless you've changed it.)

If it's a vector drawing, and you copy/pasted the logo at any time, and you're working on a Mac computer, you've run into a long standing bug. Use Duplicate instead.

Here's a long but detailed tutorial about transparency: http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/inde ... article=14 Not all of it will be helpful for your situation, but your answer will be found there....except that I've already written everything you should need in this message....unless there's more info that you've left out here, then you should find this tutorial useful.
