This is a question about why Inkscape does this, or was made to behave this way. It's bugged me since I first started to learn Inkscape, and I think it's about time I understand it

If you want to copy or duplicate only a portion of a path, why is it necessary to break apart the path, and then select it, only to have to put it back together again, after you've copied or duplicated? Why can't you just select the nodes of the part of the path that you want to copy or duplicate, to create the new path? I think the latter is more intuitive and much quicker. Plus I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work? Not that I really understand the technical side at all, that's why I'm asking

Thank you very much
