What country are you living in? That Japanese crying baby wouldn't work well in Germany
With text or without? Funny? Neutral? Frightening? Anything specific the client wants?

Hello
the same here: Consult to your client, it's for an hospital, an hotel, etc?. I mean, to have an idea of the persons that are going to see the warning signs.
- I'll say also consult standards and regulations.
- Anyway, the message must be clear, trying not to complicate the design so much. It's not necessary to have ultra-realistic human figures, or a precise drawing of the elevator's hall. In Your samples, honestly that crab may be confusing for maaany people

Re: Need some ideas
I remember this "contest" where the brief stated signs get more recognition if they are humorous. Clients may differ.
Re: Need some ideas
Maybe it's different in other parts of the world, but here in the US, elevator doors won't close if anything (like fingers, hands or feet) is in the way. If one door touches anything except the other door, they both open up again. Here, people actually put a hand, arm or foot between the closing doors, on purpose, to make them open, if they want to get on or off before the doors close. I've never seen any such warning sign on an elevator/lift.
The only kind of warning I've ever seen on an elevator/lift, is about overloading it with too much weight. Like maybe it tells the maximum number of people who can ride. On the inside of elevators, often there is a sign that gives instructions in case of a power failure. Often there is a little telephone inside, and a sign tells how to use it, or how to set off the emergency alarm.

Why not? It stands out.

It does. But would you think it fits in a serious environment?

I think for elevator/lift doors in "normal" european locations I think you should go for informative and clear visualization. Funny weird chinse/japanese is very laughable though. Does the client have any wishes or limitations? Or are you hands free to make very creative signs?
