Changing the color of some lines

Postby jimcrist » Wed May 07, 2014 3:36 am

I'm a fairly rookie user of Inkscape. I started with a county map of our state, an .svg file. It's basically a white map with all the county boundaries in black. I want to divide the state up into regions using county boundaries. I can use Fill Bounded Areas to change ALL the lines from black to red, but I don't want that. How do I change SOME of the black county lines into red? Thanks!!

Hi.

You have to change the lines into separate entities.
If they are grouped you select the group and pressShift - Ctrl - Grepeatedly until no more groups exist.
You can then separate the lines into separate objects by 'break apart'; Shift - Ctrl - K

Then you just select the lines you want to change - you can select by 'drawing' a line over all the items you want to select by pressing ALT and Leftclick & drag mouse.

Fast & dirty...
You might also try the bucket tool in the space, with no fill and a fat stroke of the color you like.
You can convert the stroke to a path for fine adjustment, if needed.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
