Needing help with the fill tool

Postby Cory Oh » Mon Nov 07, 2016 11:12 pm

I'm creating a font in Inkscape using paths and I've hit a snag with the closed letters like 'O' and 'P' and 'D', all letters that have holes in the center. I've made paths for each letter including the holes, naturally I figure that the fill option would hit a border of the inner path and leave the inside blank, but it fills the entire letter (picture a black oval instead of a letter 'O'). I haven't been able to 'delete' the 'blackness' where the hole is, because selecting the path and choosing to delete it usually results in the path itself deleting. I know that this is probably a simple fix, but it's totally hindering my progress at the moment. Any help is greatly appreciated. Let me know if this post isn't clear enough. Thanks!

Hi.

If those are compound paths -outside and inside subpaths are combined together- then you would only need to do is to reverse one of the subpath's direction.
Just select one node in the path with the node tool and reverse path.

Thanks for the help! I'm having trouble finding how to reverse the path once I select the node, the option doesn't appear when I right click it.

Oh! It worked! Thank you! All I needed to do was figure out about combining compound paths. Oh my goodness, thank you for your help!
