Inkscape crashed on me and said it was backing up my work, where would I find the backup?

It saves it to your user directory, which on windows will be c:\documents and settings\username\
be aware it doesnt always put a file extension on it so it may just be named like "New document 1.2007_08_20_18_21_15.0"
on linux I believe it gos in ./inkscape but I'm not 100% sure
