inkscape and vista
can i run inkscape on windows vista. any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you
Re: inkscape and vista
Yes of course you can.
You can download the official 0.45 version from here http://www.inkscape.org/download/?lang=en. Under Official Releases choose .exe installer.
If you want you can install the development version of 0.46 but there are some bugs concerning printing on Windows and some python extensions (Perspective, Envelope). If you don't need those features I'd recommend the development version because there are lots of new tools and improvements that aren't available in 0.45. You can download it from the same page, only under Development Versions, Mirrored Win32 Builds, and then choose the latest date. You need to download it, export the archive into a folder you want (Im not sure if Vista has the Program Files as WinXP but I keep it there).

Also make sure you run the program as administrator - or changing inkscape settings won't work.
You can do this permanently by going to right-click>properties or just once by right-click>run as administrator.

Re: inkscape and vista
I have another question - is it normal that the proggy is so slow with Vista ? I mean, I KNOW that Vista is epic Crap but would you guys think that Inkscape would run smoother and faster (like a normal application) on Xp or Win 7 ?
I'm just curious 'cause I really looove this and I want to use it and learn it - I'm the first anti illustrator girl in North America and this is the best alternative - some stuff even looks 3D even if it's only decent shading ! so for sure I want to pursue with Inky

Re: inkscape and vista
I've used it on two Vista computers, and it works fine. GTK is a little screwy, in that when you hover over a menu item, the menu item turns white and you can't see it. Other than that, everything has worked. Gimp on Vista also has the hover problem.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi Everybody.
Yesterday i tried to install Inskcape 0.48 and 0.47 in my laptop (running Windows Vista) and booth failed. Finally, i tried with 0.46 and it worked perfectly. Version 0.47 Portable also run perfectly, so maybe you would try to use portable version.
(Sorry for my bad english)
