Changing default new document in 0.48

Postby mystery » Wed Sep 08, 2010 10:18 am

I just got Inkscape 0.48 and it isn't keeping my presets. On 0.47 I got it to open my own template on startup. In this version it always loads the paper size, which I don't want. How do I change the default?

Maybe you accidentally lost your prefs file in the upgrade?
Maybe just recreate your custom default?

With Inkscape 0.47, did you replace/rename the default template in the 'share/templates' directory in the program folder of Inkscape? This will of course not survive an upgrade - better save a custom template (with your chosen initial settings for zoom, grid, snap, page size/orientation etc.) as 'default.svg' in the 'templates' directory of your Inkscape user profile folder. The location depends on your OS:

  • linux/osx:
    ~/.config/inkscape/templates/default.svg
  • Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Inkscape\templates\default.svg
  • Windows Vista / 7:
    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Inkscape\templates\default.svg

Oh, application data? That's different. I had always replaced the one in program files. I put a modified "default.svg" in the templates folder in program files and that didn't change the default.
