Hello all,

First I want to say thank you in advance for any insight into the issue I am having. I am a new user and just downloaded version .92. My issues are there is no menu bar at the top of the screen and if I hover on any of the tools or command options all I see is a black bar. There is no description of the tool. My machine is running Windows 8, 64 bit. It has 2 Gigs of RAM and 300 Gig Hard Drive.

Thank you again.

Mmh, interesting, never seen anything like this.

Which version are you running? Exactly, I mean. See Help > About.
Also, which file from the website did you download?
What's your system's language?

Does a complete uninstall - deletion of inkscape folder - reinstall cycle help?

Thanks Moini for the response, I am running the newest version .92.3. I downloaded it right from Inkscape.org. I also tried version .92.2 and .91.  I deleted everything I could find relating to it in the directory before I reinstalled it. Same issues with all. I downloaded the 64 bit exc file for .92.3. Language is set to English (United States)

Appreciate the help

Welcome to the forum!

I have seen symptoms similar to this, when people report that they are using a 2 or more monitor setup.  Usually I've heard about it with Macs, but not always.  Or I've seen it with unusual screen resolutions, or switching the screen orientation from landscape to portrait.

For the tooltips, in Windows versions before 10, you can change the font, size, color, etc.  I don't know exactly how to find those settings on Windows 8.  But if you've never changed them, I would lean more towards it being a problem with Inkscape.  Are you able to see tooltips elsewhere in Windows, or in other programs?

What is that theme you're using in Windows 8?  It doesn't look the default theme.  Could it be a classic theme, or high contrast?  I haven't heard of any Windows theme which causes a problem with Inkscape, so mostly I'm just curious.  But I still wonder if it could be part of the problem?

Thank you all for the suggestions and support. Brynn it was the Contrast. Windows was in High Contrast Mode. Put back in normal and I can see everything!!  I can't wait to get started having all the features visible.

Thanks again

Oh wow!  I really had no idea whether a high contrast theme would cause trouble.  I just knew that I've never seen that theme before.

I should probably check to see if there are any bug reports for that....
