Text annotation goes to the opposite way

I do not know how why the annotation with text goes in unexpected directions.
In this example, I meant to annotate

10 Hz

But it came out as follows,

As soon as I hit "space", the text jumps left.  Why is it?

Here is an svg file.  It does seem like a space key issue.  I don't have issues with space key otherwise.  This is on a ubuntu linux system.

I just noticed the svg was loaded correctly in the post.  That is not what I see when I worked on it on the ubuntu though.

I use Windows and when I opened your file had the same issue.  Until someone more knowledgeable pops in - I suspect it's the line height issue - if you notice the ? that is beside the line height is highlighted, so might be a line height issue  (which is why the text in your bottom text box doeesn't have space). 
I ensured the ? was NOT selected, then I created a text box with 10 hz and it typed perfectly.  For me, the arial seemed to go wonky moreso than say times new roman (no idea why).  If times new roman works, as a workaround type using another font, then you can go back after typing, select all the text, then apply arial.

Interesting.  I'm not sure exactly what this means.  I also see it correctly in the forum, above.  But when I open in Inkscape, I see "Hz    10" rather than "10 Hz".  And I also see the space issue.  One press of the space bar moves the cursor by much more than one space.

Oooohhh, I see it.  When you have the Hz text object selected, look on the control bar.  You have Word Spacing set for -100.00.  Apparently using the space bar is how Inkscape decides where a new word starts.  The other text object has the same setting.  So whenever you use a space, the cursor moves negative 100 px.

But it looks like a new text object should go back to the default.  If it doesn't, at least now you can change it back to zero.

I am mystified.  I could not figure out what you mean by control bar.  And I could not find Word Spacing.
I also do not understand the Line Height description.  The only ? I see is in the Fill and Stroke panel.

Here's a screenshot showing the control bar for the Text tool, in your file.  (sorry for the dark theme color)  The options on the control bar change, and show all the different options for each tool that you select.  It's in the red rectangle.

If you select the "Hz 10" text object, you'll see that one of those optionis does not have 0.00 in it.  Instead, it has "-100.00".  But for clarity, I circled that particular one in yellow.

I don't understand the ? button either.  But I don't think the line height is an issue in this case.  So we can ignore that for now.

Thank you very much, brynn.  My default view did not have the textbar on top.  I went to View and clicked Custom, now everything appears.  I tried to get it go back to the earlier view.  But I was not able to do.  At one point I also saw the line height ? that flamingolady mentioned.  But I don't see that anymore.  Thank you all.

You can get those options back by clicking on the text tool (the A[), it brings up the toolbar automatically.  You may have to click on the >> to see the word spacing box.
