Hi,
I'm quite interested in giving a try to style/CSS features- according to documentation on the wiki, there shoud be a style editor  in the Object menu (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Style_Editor).. but I cannot find it...
I'm running Inkscape 0.92.3 on Gentoo Linux, any idea how to make it appearing?

Welcome to the forum!

According to the first few sentences of that wiki article (in the Status section) the code has been merged into the trunk.  That means that there is at least one development version which contains the code.  I would have no idea whether that particular version is the version which they maintain as more or less stable, to facilitate testing.  In any case, it's not in any stable version of Inkscape.

Unforunately I haven't been able to find any way to decipher which development version is which.  Maybe Moini can help (but don't contact her - she'll be here pretty soon, probably)?  Here's where (I'm pretty sure) the dev versions are kept:  https://ci.appveyor.com/project/inkscape/inkscape/history

Hi there,

I'm not sure about how to get or build Inkscape development versions for Gentoo, but this feature is currently only available in Inkscape's master branch, and will only be released with its next major version.

You can get the code here:
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/master

And here's a script that automates building on Ubuntu - you may want to read the README for the info about the packages that need to be installed in order to be able to build:
https://gitlab.com/Moini/make_ink

Or maybe you can use snap:

Moini, how can we know when something has been merged into the trunk (or a trunk) whether it's available in the development version or will not be released until the next version release?

I thought everything (new features) went into the development version, so it can be tested before it's released.

We can know that by watching the commits to the Inkscape master branch and the discussions that are going on about merge requests to said branch, and when we are doing testing for devs. I do 1. and 2., and sometimes, usually for Jabier, 3.
Also, if devs remember to document their changes, we can learn about changes by watching the release notes page for the corresponding version on the Wiki.

Looking for activity on the bug tracker is a way to see what's going on, too.

So you mean there are release notes before the release actually happens?

Well, I could never learn by watching commits, because I probably can't decipher it.  And I can't at least effectively watch activity in the bug tracker, because for my level of membership, there's no way to know when comments are added to an existing report (or they are closed or status changes).  That must be hidden somehow, in upper membership levels.  I can only follow new reports.  (And gitlab will probably be much the same way, although not exactly the same, I don't think.)

I'll just remember to say "maybe" from now on. :)

Yes, as soon as a version is out, a draft for the notes for the next version is created on the Wiki.

You can (and everyone can) filter launchpad bugs by latest activity, or even subscribe to them (not recommended...)
Same goes for gitlab.

I've never found any option for latest activity, on LP.

I have Importance, Status, Number, Title, Package/Project/Series Name, and Heat.  I typically view them by Number, so at least I can see new ones as they are created.

But new comments to pre-existing reports, I haven't ever found a way to see those.  I've always assumed that ability must be tied to a higher level of membership.

Click on the cog icon in front of the sorting options.

Ooohh!  I have actually clicked on that icon before.  But because the title of that popup window is "Visible Info", it didn't click that it would give me another filter.  I never could figure out how developers and bug managers could manage to keep up with new comments.  I thought either they were subscribed to all the bug reports automatically (so that they would get emails about new comments), or it was tied to some other member level.

Thanks
