Hello - I have read numerous threads and have viewed a couple of video tutorials regarding the Measurement Tool and would really like to be able to use it. However, my toolbar does not contain the Measurement Tool. I honestly would not have even known about the tool if it weren't for joining this forum. One of the questions I was asked to join was "Which place # is the Measurement Tool on the Tools Control Bar?". Since I do not show it, I had to do a lot of searching to find out exactly what & where it was. I figured that my macbook was too old and that I could not utilize the newest version, thus, I would not have access to the Measurement Tool. Bummer!!

Today, I introduced my friend to Inkscape and helped her download the program to her windows-based laptop. The Measurement Tool displayed immediately and that made me very curious...and jealous...and sad!!  :-(   Sooo...I made sure that I was running the newest version and it told me I was. I then started looking in every nook and cranny of the software program to find out how to turn the tool on...no luck! I have searched all over this forum trying to find how to access the tool &/or turn it on...no luck!

I also was very hesitant to post on here because I am afraid that I have missed the tutorial somewhere and don't want to be a bother.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to uninstall and then reinstall the newest version? Or is this a tool that is not capable of being run on a macbook?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks - Dee  :help:

Welcome to the forum!

The version number you need to see (Help menu > About Inkscape) is 0.91.  And here's a screenshot of the toolbar, with a red rectangle around the Measurement tool.

If you still don't see it, I'm not sure what to suggest.  I haven't heard this problem before.  But hopefully it's just one of those darn human nature genes  :)

Hi Brynn - So...even though my "upgrade" tool told me I was at the latest version, I actually was not. I re-downloaded the latest version and this time I overwrote the last version and now I have the tool. Thank you so much for your help!

If it helps, I did find the attached on Inkscapeforum.com. I guess I got the 2 forums confused when I mentioned the security question. Sorry!! Apparently I'm not the only one who couldn't see the tool, but it looks like it is because it is the older version.

Thanks! Dee
