Bucket Fill tool does not work as it used to be

in version 0.47, the bucket fill create a new shape to fill the visible shape visible. The basic example in the inkscape book I bought simply make a rectangle over lap a circle and pain the insection of both shapes.

But now this feature does not work anymore. Just trying to paint plain rectangle does not work. The only way to paint a rectangle with the pain tool is to paint a rectangle already painted. Which will create a new filled shape with the new attributes.

I know there were some talk to change the tool and use vectorial detection to paint the area, but now it simply don't even paint at all.

Maybe there is a new way to get the same results. I just want to fill the letters of a hollow font. I changed the fonts as path and I want to fill them with color. I cannot use the fill attribute, because according to inkscape, the shape is the outline and there is no way to convert an outline into a shape.

Well there probably is a way to fill the letters using a regular fill -- if we can't get the Paint Bucket tool working.

When you place the Bucket tool pointer over the enclosed area, and click, look down at the status bar and see if it gives you any clues.

If not, or you don't know what to make of it, you're welcome to share the SVG file with us, for testing.

The error message is "Area is not bounded, cannot fill". But the area is bounded. SImply drawing a square without fill and trying to fill it with a color will give this error message. How can a rectangle not be bounded in the first place.

Painting the intersection of 2 shapes will not work as instructed in the original tutorial. Converting the rectangle as an object would not make the paint bucket work either.

It's been a while since I had a chance to use a more recent version of Inkscape and there is a lot of problems I did not have before. I'll probably make separate post about other features later.

Interesting - I think you may have found a bug.  I can't reproduce it with 0.92.2 on Windows 7.

If you decide to upgrade to 0.92.2, would you test again?  If it still doesn't work properly, we should probably make a bug report. ...Hhm, let's see if there already is one...

Ah-ha.  Never mind about testing in 0.92.2, since it's already reported.  https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1663095  It sounds like developers are asking for a test file.  If you could attach and SVG here, I'll attach it to the bug report.  Or else if you're already reg-d on Launchpad, you reply yourself.

Effectively, it's so easy to reproduce that no svg files are required.

Hi,

I've got the same bug...

Guess i've found the problem.
Default opacity for this tool is set to 0%...

I've changed this, one I've managed to catch the object, and it's working for me.
