How to Fractalize a shape

Hello, I am a new Inkscape user and I am wondering if it is possible to fractalize a shape. I have drawn a rectangle, selected it, went to Extensions->Modify Path->Fractalize but the shape doesnt fractalize at all when I do. I've poked around and found little, and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's possible.

A rectangle is not a path. Maybe doing Path > Object to Path will help.

Yes, that is sadly a bad name for that extension.  It does not produce fractals at all.  It was one of the first extensions I ever tried using in Inkscape.  At the time, I had been using other fractal programs, and was excited if Inkscape could produce vector fractals.  But unfortunately, it can't 

Well actually, it might be possible, if you know the math formulas.  I don't remember which extension....  Oh, one of them is Render > L-Systems.  But I found it fairly limiting, without knowing how to write the formulas (or being able to figure it out).  There's another one, maybe Parametric Curves or Function Plotter?
