In the attached file the red arrow points to a spot where the line is broken and there are 2 nodes, one on top of the other.  I need to move the node that is connected to the right line, but it is below the node that is connected to the left line.  I can note the position of the top node, move it, move the node I want to move and type in the position to move the other node back to it's original position but this seems cumbersome.  Is the an easy way to switch which node is selected so I can just move the node I want?

Click on the line segment between the node you want and the next node. This will select both nodes that build up that segment. Then deselect the second node again. Now use the keyboard (arrows, possibly combined with alt and /or Shift) to move the node to a place where the mouse can grab it.
